We arrived to Vienna on the 3rd of April, in the morning. Some of us went directly to MAA workshop “Generations in Arbitration”, the rest decided to visit the city and relax a little bit. In the evening we attended the opening ceremony, which was held in the Konzerthaus. After the banquet we went to the club “Aux Gazelles”, which is the official club of the Moot.
The pleadings started the next day. Three out of four of our opponents were from the United States. Olga and Magda pleaded against Pace University from New York. Piotr and Kasia pleaded against Ambedkar Government Law College from India. Magda and Olga pleaded again on Monday against Rutgers University from New Jersey, and Jarek with Wojtek closed the general rounds on Tuesday, when they faced Tulane University from New Orleans. It was a challenging, yet very amusing experience. After each pleading we received feedback from the arbitrators.
The ceremony of announcement of the best 64 teams was held on Tuesday in the evening, in the Vienna Center. We were a bit disappointed when we learned that we did not pass to the final rounds. However, other 150 teams were in exactly the same situation.
During the next days we attended pleadings of the best teams. Although we did not participate any more in the competition, it was an excellent opportunity to learn from the best teams. Some of the pleadings were absolutely breathtaking; we were particularly impressed by the pleadings of King’s College and Victoria University of Wellington.
In the evenings we were meeting other participants at Aux Gazelles. We made new friends; we also met our friends from the teams which participated in the Warsaw Pre-Moot. In the free time, we visited Vienna and enjoyed wonderful weather.
It was difficult to leave Vienna after such a great time. It was a fantastic finale of six months of hard work. We were leaving Vienna full of enthusiasm and optimism about the future.
After the moot was over, we learned about the score of our team. We were pleased to find out that we made our way to the best 100 teams. It was a good beginning for Jagiellonian University; we hope the future teams will profit from our experience.
Great blog!!
